Prof. Dr. Jurģis Šķilters

Chair of the Laboratory for Perceptual and Cognitive Systems, Faculty of Computing, University of Latvia

Dr. Šķilters’ fields of expertise are spatial perception and cognition, visual perception, visuospatial cognition, and interface between semantics and visuospatial cognition. Apart from Latvia, not only he has been teaching, lecturing in several countries but operating many research projects (like USA, Italy, Denmark, Germany).
Dr. Šķilters argues that cognitive science is a big mosaic with which we can connect the knowledge of different sciences about how and why a person sees, realizes and understands the world. As many researchers use only one research direction, Dr. Šķilters desires to combine both – empirical and mathematical – directions.

Dr. Šķilters’ favourite quote:
“Everything is related to everything else, but near things are more related than distant things.”
